Dogs And Cats And Kittens OH MY….

Lets do an animal count at my house right now…

3 Dogs (Sydney, Jack, Jade)

2 Cats (Scooter, Stormy)

2 Kittens (Solaris, Little Missy)

= 7 animals

Well not the all time high at the house but, still a lot of animals to keep track of. And the strangest thing, is that all the animals with S names are mine and it was completely unintentional, up until Solaris and then I just decided to keep the theme going. All my animals may have an S name for the rest of my life… I  may run out of names 0_O

Well to the fun part… THE KITTENZ!!!

And as always Sydney was afraid of the little balls of fur that entered the house. She avoided them at all costs, and when the unfortunate time came when she had to be introduced to them she tried to pretend they didn’t exist. I had Sol (that’s going to be the short version of his name) in his kennel, and she went to the bottom of my bed and hoisted herself over the foot board instead of facing the kitten. It was funny to watch her try to ignore the fur ball trying to destroy her feet, and attacking her tail. Once she got over her fear of the kitkats, her mothering instincts have now kicked in to full swing.

Jade decided to nip at the wee ones and nearly got her head bitten off by mommy Syd. She was a snarling flash of yellow fur and teeth. I never knew Syd could be that protective. She also cleans them, if they will sit still long enough, and watches them, making sure they don’t get into any major trouble. I find it extremely cute, and hopefully it will be good for her in the long run.

Well that’s all, as always..

In The Spotlight…

So I got a new camera, and Syd seems to keep popping up in a bunch of the pics… hummmmm I wonder why???So here are a few.

Sydney

Thrown the Frisbee, plz

Why do you keep takin pics?

Now on another note…

Syd is the wimp of the family, next to me, and has very sensitive paws, plus it is getting pretty hot, like 100 degrees. unfortunately its only going to keep getting hotter, and her paws suffer. So we got her…

MUTTLUCKS!!! (that may not be spelled right)

If you don’t know what those are they are doggy shoes. Its pretty funny to watch her walk around in them, she walks like she is on glass, and picks her feet up really high. But it keeps her paws from burning and that’s the important thing, she will get use to them, hopefully.

Well that’s about it! Enjoy the pics…

Cat attack…

Alright I’m back, at least till camp and have a funny story for you…

Last thursday me and my dad decided to take Syd along with me to his house. His dogs, Sara and Jema were in the truck so we decided to let the greet and sniff butts and all the doggy like stuff. unfortunately Sara seemed to be in a pissy mood and kept growling at Syd every time she decided to try to make friends. Finally Syd got up the courage to like Sara, in that cowering and wagging her tail way. Sara on the other hand started growling furiously and standing over Syd, while she cowers (remember now, Syd is 80lbs and Sara is only 40lbs)

Then I heard it, that bloodchilling scream that only cats can make, and here comes Scooter ,my 13-year-old cat with NO back claws, and who tolerates Syd, charging out of the garage at Sara. He was hissing and making this strange growling noise that he only makes when he is pissed. And he comes straight up to Sara and whacks her hard in the face, then again and again, until Sara backs up. Sara was stunned , Syd was happy to have her friend and I was in shock. My cat had just defended my dog… what the???

Sara then decided to bark, and my black cat does the perfect imitation of those cats you see on Halloween with their backs arched, tails straight up and hissing/growling. Jema then decides to see what Scooter is, on the account that she has never seen a cat before, and gets a face full of cat paw and growling  cat. Great first impression Scooter, this is why cats and dogs hate each other… or do they?

I have my questions: Was Scooter coming to rescue my 80 pound lump of chicken? Was he there to take revenge on Sara for when she lived at my house? Is it possible that Scooter actually loves Syd in one of those “You annoy me to death and you have dog breath, and lick me and try to play with me but yes I love you” kinda ways? Is this all a plot between my animals to confuse me so that they can laugh behind my back? Or am I just crazy and all this, as in the world, life, and the universe, is just one of my big crazy dreams?

All good questions that must be answered!!!

On a completely random note: Syd makes these growling/rumbling/huffing noises at me whenever I get home and she is super excited to see me and has a toy in her mouth. But I know it’s not growling because her entire body is wiggling with joy to see me and her tail is a deadly weapon of pain and DOOM.

Thought you’d like to know that… MAYBE I should just post random facts.. RANDOMLY! You’ll never know when they are coming so prepare yourself!! Or BE AFRAID… VERY AFRAID

And now after that random rant it is time to go, and eat dinner!! Yum Yum pork chops!

SO here is the question you all need to answer! What happened between Syd, Scooter and Syd? Was it Scooter defending Syd, taking revenge on Sara or a conspiracy against me? I wanna hear your theory on this strange event in the universe!

Thats about all…

Ups and Downs and Ups…

Syd has been on meds and I have been taking care of her, and kinda neglecting everything else. She is MUCH better, but she has her ups and downs. Sometimes she will suddenly get worse and then in an hour she’ll be fine again. I’m sure she’s just getting over the last of her bug. So onto the fun stuff….

We got Syd FRISBEES!!!!

And of course she loves them so much, she can’t get enough of them and has already almost destroyed one. Luckily they were a dollar at Walmart so it’s ok, we got extras :) So here are the funny pics and videos, if I can get them to load! She’s hilarious, she jumps around, and carried, pushes, and scrapes the Frisbees all around the yard, she can’t figure out how to get it to flip over. It’s the funniest thing I have watched in a long time.   Hope you love my dork of a dog playing with her Frisbees!

More funny things, Syd dropped her tug-war-toy into the pond today and pulled it out, COVERED in slimy, green, disgusting algae!!! Then she came over to be, soaked and dropped it in my lap. I screamed than threw it far way from me, flinging water all over me and my mom. Than Syd, being the retriever that she is, fetched it a brought it back. Again I screamed, again, and Syd dropped it, again, into my lap. This time I told her to leave it and when she looked up, he nose was covered in green algae. I took a pic so i’ll upload that too, when I can get to it!!  They’re pretty funny, I hope you love them!   That’s all for now!!

Syd is sick, again…

Well, she seemed to be getting better, then when I came home from a concert (The “take action” Tour) at two in the morning (the concert was Friday, so technically it was Saturday), and she threw up again. I took her up to bed, and realized that I hadn’t seen her eat in three days. This had me concerned. Then that morning, she threw up again, and was acting lethargic. We took her to the emergency vet. She wasn’t happy about that. They wanted to take an x-ray of her belly to make sure there was nothing blocking her digestive system, and when she left the room I got a glance of her face as I went back to the waiting room.

She was staring at the door she had just left, and had the most depressed and scared look on her face. It made me cry. Eventually they got the x-ray and there was absolutely nothing in her belly, no food or anything. So they gave her an antibiotic, cause she was bleeding out her butt (poor pupbutt) and an anti-nausea pill, so she won’t throw up anymore. She’s better today. I think the pills are helping but she’s not 100%, but she’s playing again and eating so all is going well so far.

That’s all for now, I’ll keep you all updated.

Update and a funny story….

Well after yesterdays chaos, Syd seems better today. She still seems a little tired, but good all around. I think she’ll be fine, just had an upset tummy. Well thought you’d all like to know that.

So onto the funny story…

When Syd was about eight months old I decided she had proved herself enough to be trusted at the dogpark. So we walked, quite slowly, the longish walk there. The walk was quite fun, Syd was in a good mood, playing tug-of-war with me using the leash and practically bouncing the entire way there. After that perilous walk we finally made it.
I let Syd off the leash in the lake area, and she stood nearby not knowing what to about the other dogs coming at her. Eventually my golden retriever decided to roll on her back and pee herself under that crazy eyed stare of a chihuahua (truthfully I don’t blame her) That was the day that I found out my dog was truly a wimp, but it’s not her fault.

That’s how it went for a while, other dogs coming to say hi to Syd, and her rolling over, or tucking her tail between her legs as far as it could go. A HUGE dog (like I was even kind of intimidated) came over to sniff her, and well she froze. I have never seen her more still in her life.  Her brown eyes were as wide as they could go, and she looked like she might just pass out from being so stiff. Of course that dog did nothing to her, he just wanted to play. But Syd just stood there like a statue, scared out of her mind.

Later that day, I was trying to get her to take a swim in the lake, I mean Goldens are supposed to love to swim. I just couldn’t get her to go anywhere where she couldn’t stand. I think she doesn’t like when her head gets wet, but she eats rain (yes EATS it, I will upload a video of this next time it rains)  and gets her entire body soaked, so I am pretty confused on that front. Anyway we were on the dock (yes our dogpark has a dock thingy) and she was just kind of sitting there staring at the water, I decided it was time to leave, and gave her one last encouragement to jump in.

At that encouragement, she leaned over the edge of the dock, got into that doggy play stance and jumped/fell headfirst into the lake. She went completely under, and I panicked for just I second, because I couldn’t see her. Then she broke the surface, doggy paddling like her life depended on it. She was panicking too, I think she thought the water was shallow, that’s why she probably jumped in. I reached down, grabbed her collar and pulled my soaked dog back to dryish land.

After I got her up, she gave me one of those “Can we do it again!!??” looks, and I told her she was a dork, and took her back home. The funny thing was she was dry when I got her home. She almost completely dried in fifteen mins of walking, now she is my “Quick-Dry Dog” She still isn’t to sure about the dog park, she’s much better though. I think it will just take time.

So here’s your mission (yes a mission): Post any stories you have about the dog park, or something your dog love and hates (like Syd with getting her head wet and the rain)! Thanks for reading! You all are the best!

5am…

So this morning I was awoken by Syd making a terrible retching noise. I quickly realized she was going to throw up, so I quickly encouraged her to jump down. When she got down, she was suddenly fine. I thought “OH! That dog was PLAYIN me!” So I turned off my light and rolled back over to go to sleep, then she threw up right in front of my door. So that’s how my morning started, with a sick dog.

After cleaning up that nasty mess, don’t make me recount that to you, I took her outside. Where she seemed completely fine and happy. I got ready for school. Then left my poor sick pupbutt to fend for herself (well my mom was there but still!!!) When I got home my mom told me Syd had been slow and lethargic all day, so we were taking her to the vet. We did, she seems better, one good thing that comes out of this is a good blog post, and a funny story (I guess that’s 2 things, but who’s counting?)

Here we go with the funny story:

Syd was laying down, sleeping, so much unlike her. When she decided to stand up her leg just wouldn’t help her. It seemed to be asleep, and she was biting at it, trying to get it to cooperate. In a few seconds it did, but you can just imagine my 83 pound dog (she got weighed today) with a leg that had fallen asleep, and you can see the hilarious scene that ensues. If you have any funny stories, anything to do with your dog, post them below!

Even after all that she’s still the best dog ever, I <3 my pupbutt! I just want her to feel better!

Well that’s about all, I think she’s fine, i’ll keep you (my five readers) posted! Thanks for reading!

A walk in the park…

So off to the park we went, a family outing of sorts. Mom and Robyn were off to the batting cages, me and Syd off on a walk around the lake. Syd was extremely happy, trying to make friends with every person she could see. Then we got close to the lake, and she saw… THE DUCKS. Syd has never ever seen a duck. Of coarse Syd just wanted to make friends with these strange new beings, but as she approached they waddled away into the water. Then one quaked at her, and she was behind my legs, tail tucked hiding from the oh so scary ducks.

We kept walking, and I told Syd (like literally I talk to her when we are on walks) that if she wanted to see a duck, up close, we had to be quite and sneaky. Over the hill we went, all sneaky like, and there were more ducks. Again one quakes and Syd was a quivering mess. I decided that maybe it wouldn’t be such a good idea to let her keep getting scared by ducks, so we started back towards the batting cages.

After we had all batted for a while, we went to  play catch. This was pure torture for Syd because of course she wanted to play too. Her head would follow every toss of the ball. I felt pretty bad. Oh well, she officially loves the park :)

Any funny stories from the park? Post them below!

Things aren’t always as they seem…

image

You may think that picture is extremely sweet, but looks can be decieving… that is actually the evil army that is forming to slowly kick me out of my own bed. But before we get to that, you need to know the beggining of all this…

Since I brought Syd home my cat, Scooter has refused to sleep in my room. This wasn’t a bad thing, cause when he did sleep with me, he would demand to be let out at twoish in the morning.

So with Syd sleeping in her crate when she was little I enjoyed good nights of sleep. As Syd grew she started sleeping on a bed on the floor and then eventually my bed. I don’t mind her on my bed, she’s a good footwarmer, and sleeps pretty still.

The other good news is that it seems that Syd and Scooter have put aside their differences and decided to share the bed. At first I thought this was great, then I figured ou their evil plans. When both of them are on the bed I have no space to sleep in.

Getting into bed is now a constant battle the contenders being dog & cat vs. human. I never win that battle, and end up uncomfortable all night.

So that is the evil army that is against me, their forces grow stronger everyday! Soon my bed will be theirs, then next the world!!! So post any crazy stories you have about your crazy pets in bed (that sounds so bad)

That’s all for now,
<3 Becca & Sydney

PS: if there are any typos, and I am sure there are, I wrote all this from my phone! So excuse them plz!
